But what shall do so many Pisi Linux, Arch, Fedora users  do? Here the solution for this Users.

At the first built for your Linux System the bash shell script  (application / x-shellscript)) get our file from here:

Facebook Messenger_linux64.run     Facebook-Messenger_linux32.run

You can download it with the command line

1.
2.

sudo . / Messenger_linux64.bin

The program was now create at /usr/share/MessengerForDesktop, but should we start it each Time from the Command Line? Now we must create a shortcut for it and give us the right permissions for the folder when you will take a look in it you see nothing while you have not the right permissions for it, let us start.

For the Permissions type the following

1
2
cd /usr/share
sudo chmod 777 -R MessengerForDesktop

Let us create now a shortcut for it we do it now in the Terminal:

1
cd /usr/share/applications

Let us create now a .desktop file

1
sudo touch Facebook Messenger.desktop

We are open now the nano Editor to write the entries for the program

1
sudo nano Facebook Messenger.desktop

Here can you now see what are the entries

1
2
3
4
5
6
7
8
9
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Type=Application
Terminal=false
Categories=Messenger;NETWORK;Chat
Icon=/usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/icon.png
Exec=/usr/share/MessengerForDesktop/Messenger
Name=Facebook Messenger

You can read here https://www.nano-editor.org/dist/v2.0/nano.html  more about the work with Nano

But you can create this .desktop file normal with a Text Editor and copy it when you are ready with the Terminal in the folder

1.
sudo cp Facebook Messenger.desktop to /usr/share/applications/
